Bosch (novel series)

Michael Connelly

1992

The Bosch series of novels written by American Michael Connelly (b. 1956) began in 1992 and is ongoing (although featuring other characters since 2015).

Harry Bosch is a LAPD detective who was in the US foster care system.

According to Michael Connelly, he chose the name Hieronymus Bosch (known as Harry Bosch) after the 15th century painter because he saw the “metaphoric possibilities of juxtaposing contemporary Los Angeles with some of the Bosch paintings.”

And because he was “to a small extent continuing literary tradition. Many writers, including Raymond Chandler, drew the names of their characters from literature and art.” See https://www.michaelconnelly.com/about/faq/
