Brian Cox on The Book Shelf with Ryan Tubridy

The Bookshelf

2024

In this episode of Ryan Tubridy's podcast, The Booshelf, Ryan talks with esteemed Scottish actor Brian Cox (b. 1946).

During the conversation, Brian Cox speaks of being effectively an orphan after his father died when he was 8 and his mother was hospitialised for a time. His older sisters then cared for him.

After a difficult childhood, Brian worked at the Dundee Repertory Theatre before beginning his training at the London Academmy of Music and Dramatic Art when he was 17.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
