Derek Owusu

1988-

Derek Owusu (born 1988) is a Ghanian-British writer and podcaster. Derek Owusu was in foster care with a white family until he was eight, and he then moved to live with his biological family. Owusu edited and contributed to the book Safe: On Black British Men Reclaiming Space (2019), and released his debut novel, That Reminds Me, in November 2019.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
