Hidden

2019

The 2nd series of the Welsh television drama, Hidden (2019) has a foster child in the background.

There are 3 young people involved in 2 murders in the series but it is not the teenager who was in foster care.

Instead, the 3 young people come from single parent families (in 1 the violent father has recently died).

While it is a relief that creators Mark Andrew & Ed Talfan aren't perpetuating stereotypes of kids in care, it is a concern that they are impugning young people from financially impoverished backgrounds and non-nuclear families.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
