Jeanette Winterson

1959-

The official site of Jeanette Winterson includes poetry, short stories, monthly column, journalism articles, excerpts from all her books, and links to interviews. Jeanette Winterson was born in 1959 and adopted in 1960. She left home at 16 and supported herself with a variety of paid work while studying at Oxford University. Her first novel, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, won the 1985 Whitbread Prize.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
