Philip Doddridge (1702-1751) Philip Doddridge was a Congregationalist minister, writer and hymn writer.

He was born in London, the youngest of 20 children. His mother died when he was 8 and his father when he was 12. His first guardian wasted the boy's inheritance, his 2nd one became a lifelong friend.

Doddridge wrote a number of books and hymns. Some ot the hymns are still in use today.
