Prince Philip: A turbulent childhood stalked by exile, mental illness and death

Prince Philip was only eight when he was suddenly separated from his parents and his four elders sisters. He never lived with his immediate family again. The youngest child of Prince andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg, Philip was left in the care of Alice's family in England after his mother suffered a breakdown and was hospitalised.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
