Real Life Super Heroes

Dee Michell

2018

Inspired by the work of Ethiopian-British poet, writer and performer, Lemn Sissay this blog is a collection of short-form biographies of people who have experienced disruption in their childhoods. Each person spent some time away from their birth families, whether that was organised formally by state intervention, or informally by friends and family. Each biography also includes reference to each person's adult life.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
