Statues of Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter erected at historical Aboriginal meeting place

ABC News (Australia)

2024

Music legends Ruby Hunter (1955-2010) and Archie Roach (1956-2022) have recently been honoured with the erection of a statue in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.

Both Ruby Hunter & Archie Roach were members of the Stolen Generation, and Atherton Gardens – where the statue is located – is where Archie Roach reunited with his Aboriginal family.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
