The Mythmakers

John Hendrix

2024

"The Mythmakers" explores the friendship between C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, from their childhoods and traumatic war experiences to their meeting at Oxford and the influence of their bond on fantasy literature. It highlights their creative differences, shared ideas about mythology, and the role of their literary group, the Inklings. The book uses a mix of prose, comic panels, and conversation between a wizard and a lion to explain complex ideas. Key themes include world-building, the value of fantasy, faith, and the impact of their works on modern storytelling.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
